Connect Zone Volunteers

Position Description: Volunteer for the Hornsby Connect Zone

Organisation and Location: Hornsby Connect @ the Hornsby Youth and Family Centre at the corner Muriel & Burdett Streets in Hornsby

Commitment: 2 hours per session, either once a week, or once a fortnight if job sharing.

Overview:

The Hornsby Connect Zone is open to neurodivergent teens aged 12 to 18. The group provides a chill area with various activity corners including art, comics, Nintendo, and board games. The aim is to create a respectful, inclusive, and kind environment for the participants.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and engage with 20 to 30 neurodivergent teens in a respectful and friendly manner.
  • Manage activity corners (art, comics, Nintendo, board games) ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment.
  • Maintain a calm and always composed disposition, even in challenging situations.
  • Address any behavioral issues quietly and respectfully without raising your voice.
  • Uphold the Hornsby Connect Zone motto: Respect, Inclusion, Kindness (RIK).

Requirements:

  • Must have a valid Working with Children Check.
  • Experience working with neurodivergent children and adolescents.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a friendly, approachable manner.
  • Commitment to fostering a respectful, inclusive, and kind environment.
